Our law firm has a strong commitment to service to our community.  Mr. Colón has a long-standing involvement with non-profit organizations in the Houston community.  For example, in 2008, he was elected as Chairman of the Board of the Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation by the Harris County Commissioners Court.  The Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation operates and develops various public facilities at Reliant Park, including the Reliant Stadium, Reliant Center and Reliant Astrodome. The corporation is a public, not-for-profit corporation overseen by a five-member board of directors appointed by the Harris County (Texas) Commissioners Court.  As Chairman of the Board, he sits on the board of the Houston Racing Association (Grand Prix), and sat on the Houston Super Bowl LI Bid Committee (to be held at Reliant Stadium in 2017), the World Cup Bid Committee, and the board of the host organization for the Houston 2011 Summer National Seniors Games.

In addition, Mr. Colón served on the Board of Directors of the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce from 1993 to 2009.  In 2004, he was elected to the position of Chair-Elect of the Board of Directors of the Chamber, served a two-year term as Chairman of the Board and served as Immediate Past Chairman.  During his Chairmanship of this important organization, he led the efforts to develop a 10-year Strategic Plan, saw the Chamber ranked as number six in the region (improvement from 25th the previous year) and emphasized and promoted procurement opportunities for Hispanic-owned businesses, appointment of Hispanics to corporate boards and international trade with Latin America.

Mr. Colón has also served as the President of the Hispanic Bar Association of Houston (1994-95) and served in other capacities such as on the Board of Directors (1989-2004), Vice President (1992-93), President-Elect (1993-94) and Immediate Past President (1995), and served as the President of the Institute of Hispanic Culture of Houston (1994) and served in other capacities such as on the Board of Directors (1992-95), President-Elect (1993) and Immediate Past President (1995).  He has also served on the Board of Directors of the American Leadership Forum (Houston), AVANCE (Houston) and as a Trustee of the Houston Foundation (1994-98).

The firm is certified as a Historically Underutilized Business by the State of Texas and the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts, and as a Minority Owned Business by the City of Houston, the Metropolitan Transit Authority, and the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council (formerly known as the Houston Minority Business Council).
